Dental Implants Post Operative Care

1. Bite firmly but gently on a gauze pad to stop the bleeding
2. Decrease discomfort and swelling by applying an ice for about 20 mins on and 20 mins off the first to 48 hrs after surgery.
3. Try to brush and floss other remaining teeth as normal but avoid the wound site.
4. Do not forcibly pull your lips or cheeks away to inspect the surgical site.
5. Strictly take your medications as prescribed.
6. Do not take liquids through a straw.
7. Do not smoke.
8. Avoid vigorous rinsing during the first week.
9. Avoid alcohol consumption for approximately one week after surgery.
10. Start with soft foods for several days, progressing to normal ones. Do not chew on implants or bone graft.

preliminary Solutions In case of emergency

1. Continuous bleeding

            If bleeding or oozing continues after you have removed the gauze pad, place another gauze pad and bite firmly for another 30 minutes. You may have to do this several times. If after biting several gauze pads, bleeding still appears excessive, please contact us or visit your nearest dentist.

 

2. Healing cap loosening or falling out.

Healing cap is the part that covers on the implant, to prepare the gum site during the healing period in order to make room for the future crown on implant.

2.1 The healing cap loosening Signs : Able to move with your tongue and unpleasant smell

          If the cap starts loosening but is still in position, rinse with antiseptic mouth rinse, use clean fingers to gently screw down the cap until it’s tight.

2.2 The healing cap falling out

          If the cap falls out from the implant, keep the site and other teeth clean as usual with brushing, flossing and antiseptic rinsing. In this case, keep the cap and return it to us or the nearest dentist to re-screw it. If you cannot find out a dentist, then just keep the cap until your next visit to us.

 

3. Implant body (fixture) falling out

Implant body (fixture) is a screw-like part inside the jawbone that serves as the replacement for the root portion of a missing natural tooth

Though the success rate of implant placement is up to 98%, there are still some cases that experience implant

failure. Causes
– Excessive loading force from ill-fitting temporary denture onto the implant
– Tooth brush accidentally hits the implant with force
– Poor oral hygiene from improper cleaning, smoking and alcohol consumption  Etc.

 

3.1 The implant loosening

            – If the implant is start loosening but is still in position, please return to us earlier for diagnosis and proper solution.

            – If the whole implant moves but is still retained in the tissue, please visit us or the nearest dentist to remove it.

3.2 The implant falling out

              – if the implant completely fall out from the tissue. Keep the other teeth clean as usual with brushing, flossing and antiseptic rinsing*

Remark * in this case please keep the implant in good condition, return it to us and we will exchange it for a new implant.
