Impacted Tooth Extraction Care Instructions

Immediate Post-Operative Care

  1. Gauze Pressure: Bite firmly on the gauze for 1–2 hours, or as directed by your dentist. Replace with a new gauze if bleeding persists.
  2. Avoid Rinsing or Tongue Pressure: Do not rinse your mouth vigorously or push the wound with your tongue for the first 1–2 hours. Swallow saliva or blood gently if needed.
  3. Cold Compress: Apply a cold pack to the cheek on the operated side during the first 2–3 days to reduce swelling and inflammation.

Daily Care

  1. Oral Hygiene: Brush your teeth gently, avoiding the surgical site. Do not rinse forcefully. After 24 hours, you may gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water if necessary.
  2. Warm Compress: On days 4–5, apply a warm compress to the operated area to help reduce swelling and blood accumulation.
  3. Medication: Take prescribed painkillers and antibiotics strictly as directed. Do not stop the medication before completing the course.
  4. Diet:
    • Eat soft, easy-to-swallow foods such as porridge, rice soup, soup, smoothies, or yogurt.
    • Avoid hard, chewy foods or small pieces that may get stuck in the wound, such as nuts or ice.
  5. Activities:
    • Avoid heavy exercise, smoking, and alcohol for at least 1 week.
    • Do not touch or poke the wound with your tongue or fingers.
  6. Suture Removal: Return to your dentist for suture removal as scheduled, usually 7–10 days after surgery.
