Oral Hygiene and Wound Care:
- Cleaning: Avoid brushing the surgical area on the first 1–2 days. From day 2 onward, brush other teeth normally and rinse your mouth with an antiseptic mouthwash or salt water (1 teaspoon salt in 1 glass of water) as directed by your dentist.
- Do Not Pick or Touch: Avoid probing or picking at the surgical site to prevent infection and promote healing.
- Suture Removal: If sutures were placed, return to your dentist for removal as scheduled.
Diet:
- Recommended Foods: Eat soft and cool foods such as rice porridge, congee, soup, or yogurt during the first 1–2 weeks.
- Foods to Avoid: Do not eat hard, crunchy, spicy, very hot, or fermented foods as they may irritate the surgical site and cause inflammation.
Swelling and Pain Management:
- Cold Compress: Apply a cold compress to the cheek near the surgical area for the first 3–5 days to reduce swelling and pain.
- Pain Medication: Take painkillers as prescribed by your dentist if you experience discomfort.
Activities and Lifestyle:
- Exercise: Avoid strenuous physical activity for the first 1–2 weeks. You may gradually resume light exercise afterward.
- Smoking: Avoid smoking for at least 2 weeks before and after surgery, as it can slow healing.
- Sleeping Position: Keep your head elevated about 30 degrees while sleeping for 2 weeks to help reduce swelling.
