Contraindications and limitations for dental implants

1. Under 18 years old
Dental implants are not recommended because the jawbone and gums are not fully developed and may change in the future.

2. People with uncontrolled chronic diseases
Diabetic patients who cannot control their blood sugar levels are at risk of dental implant failure.
People who take certain blood thinning medications must consult a dentist first to adjust the dosage of medication appropriately.

3. Insufficient jawbone volume
If there is bone loss in the area where teeth are lost, dental implants cannot be implanted. Bone grafting must be performed first.

4. People who take osteoporosis medications
Some osteoporosis medications can slow down the healing of oral wounds, increasing the risk of dental implant failure.

5. Heavy smokers
Smoking 1 pack or more cigarettes per day increases the risk of infection and loose dental implants. The dentist may recommend other, more appropriate treatments.

Precautions after dental implant surgery

Bleeding

Bite the gauze in your mouth for at least 2 hours and avoid spitting. Swallow the blood and saliva instead.

Swelling

For the first 24 hours, it is recommended to apply ice to the swollen cheek every minute. Take painkillers to relieve pain and prevent infection.

Food

Avoid hot and spicy food. For the first 24 hours after surgery, it is recommended to eat liquid food such as milk, porridge, rice soup, etc.

Oral hygiene

Use mouthwash every 3-4 hours. Teeth in the surgical area should be brushed the day after surgery.

Drinking and Smoking

Avoid alcoholic beverages and smoking at least 1 week before surgery. Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking at least 1 month after surgery.

Exercise and Sleep

For the first 2-3 days after surgery, avoid strenuous exercise, hot tubs or saunas. It is recommended to prop yourself up higher than usual on pillows for the first 2 days after surgery.
