GBT (Guided Biofilm Therapy)
Why GBT? A new technology that gently and effectively cleans teeth
Good oral health is the foundation of strong teeth and overall good health. However, traditional methods of cleaning teeth, such as scaling, can be painful and uncomfortable for some people. Today, TDH Dental presents Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT), an advanced tooth cleaning technology that provides superior results and reduces discomfort during treatment.
GBT is a process of removing biofilm (plaque) that is the main cause of oral health problems such as tooth decay, gingivitis and periodontitis using the gentle but effective AIRFLOW®, PERIOFLOW® and PIEZON® technologies.
8 important steps of GBT that help clean and healthy teeth
1. Oral Assessment (Assessment and Infection Control)
Before starting the dental cleaning, the dentist will perform a detailed examination of your oral health, including:
✔ Assessment of gums and teeth
✔ Examination of the condition of the roots and dentures (if any)
✔ Consideration of the risk of gum and tooth disease
✔ Establishment of a treatment plan that is appropriate for each individual’s oral health
This process allows the dentist to tailor a dental cleaning plan to best suit your needs.
2. Disclose – Make Biofilm Visible
In order to achieve precise removal of biofilm, GBT uses a Biofilm Discloser, which makes invisible biofilm visible on the teeth. This process helps to:
🔹 Show where bacteria are accumulating
🔹 Make patients aware of their oral health issues
🔹 Make biofilm removal more effective
3. Motivate – Raise Awareness and Teach
After revealing the biofilm, the dentist will provide instructions on proper oral care, including:
✔ Proper brushing technique
✔ Use of dental floss and interdental brushes
✔ Selection of appropriate dental cleaning products
Being disciplined in dental care is important to prevent long-term oral health problems.
4. Remove Biofilm and Stains with AIRFLOW® (Airflow® MAX – Remove Biofilm, Stains, and Early Calculus)
AIRFLOW® is a dental cleaning technology that uses water pressure, air, and micro-powdered Erythritol to remove:
✔ Biofilm (Bacterial plaque)
✔ Tea, coffee and cigarette stains
✔ Primary tartar
Advantages of AIRFLOW®:
💨 Gentler than general tartar scaling
💨 Does not damage the tooth surface and gums
💨 Reduces the formation of new plaque
5. Removal of biofilm in deep gum pockets with PERIOFLOW® (Perioflow® – Remove Biofilm in >4 to 9mm Pockets)
In cases of deep gum pockets (more than 4 mm), the dentist will use the PERIOFLOW® Nozzle, which can reach the gum pockets and the root area to effectively remove biofilm.
Advantages of PERIOFLOW®:
🔹 Helps treat periodontitis and prevent it from getting worse
🔹 Suitable for people with dental implants or bridges
🔹 Gentler and safer than using traditional tartar scaling tools
6. Removal of remaining tartar with PIEZON® PS (Piezon® PS – Remove Remaining Calculus)
If tartar remains The dentist will use the PIEZON® PS Instrument, a gentle and precise vibration technology to remove tartar.
The advantages of PIEZON® PS:
✔ High accuracy, reducing unnecessary contact with gum tissue
✔ Does not wear down the teeth like traditional scaling tools
✔ Makes the teeth clean thoroughly
7. Check – Make Your Patient Smile
After cleaning, the dentist will check to ensure that:
🔹 Biofilm and tartar are completely removed
🔹 No invisible deposits
🔹 Teeth are in good condition
8. Planning for next care and appointment (Recall – Healthy Patient = Happy Patient)
GBT is a holistic oral health care. Therefore, follow-up and next appointments are important.
✔ The dentist will determine the frequency of GBT based on each individual’s oral condition.
✔ Recommend appropriate oral care products.
✔ Provide advice on foods and behaviors that help reduce biofilm formation.
