General Guidelines:
Follow all post-operative instructions carefully to ensure proper healing. During the first 1–2 weeks, focus on wound care, such as applying cold compresses, eating soft foods, avoiding alcohol and smoking, taking all prescribed medications, and avoiding nose blowing or using straws. During the first 24 hours, swallow any saliva or fluid instead of rinsing vigorously. Afterward, maintain oral hygiene carefully and attend all follow-up appointments with your dentist.

Care During the First 1–2 Weeks:

  1. Compresses:

– Apply a cold compress to the surgical area to reduce swelling.

– After 2–3 days, you may start warm compresses to help reduce swelling further.

  1. Diet:

– Eat soft foods such as soup, congee, or other liquid/soft foods during the first 2–4 days.

– Avoid hard, sticky, spicy, or very hot foods.

  1. Nose Blowing/Sneezing:

– Do not blow your nose or use a straw for at least 10 days.

– If you need to sneeze, open your mouth to reduce sinus pressure.

  1. Oral Hygiene:

– Avoid touching or probing the surgical site with your tongue or fingers.

– Brush and floss gently, avoiding the surgical area directly.

– Use antiseptic mouthwash as prescribed by your dentist after meals.

  1. Medications and Lifestyle:

– Take painkillers and antibiotics exactly as prescribed.

– Avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 48 hours, or longer if advised by your dentist.

– Avoid strenuous exercise or heavy physical activity during the first 1–3 days.

– Keep your head slightly elevated while sleeping to reduce swelling.

After the Initial Healing Period:

  • Oral Hygiene: Brush your teeth at least twice daily and floss regularly to prevent bacterial buildup.
  • Diet: Return to a normal diet, but avoid chewing very hard foods on the surgical side.
  • Follow-Up: Attend all scheduled dental appointments to monitor healing and evaluate recovery.
